Arizona’s First Barn Quilt Trail

Cool temperatures, abundant wildlife, scenic beauty, colorful history and unlimited outdoor activities create an almost magical wonderland. Located on the eastern edge of Arizona’s White Mountains, on Highways 180 & 191, the charming community of Alpine offers Arizona’s 1st Barn Quilt Trail.

The concept of Barn Quilts began in Ohio with a wish of a daughter wanting to honor her mother. Alpine’s trail began in 2016 when a few businesses chose to hang Barn Quilts. Hopes were to have a few quilts up in a year, however, the fever took over and Barn Quilt’s seemed to pop up all over. Enjoy over a dozen “Business-owned” Barn Quilts in the downtown area.

For those that like a treasure hunt, venture out to the surrounding neighborhoods to travel through our beautiful countryside to see all the homes that proudly display Barn Quilts. In many instances they have created their own design to reflect their interests. See how many you can identify.

The beauty and history of quilting is definitely an integral part of Alpine. The annual Alpine Quilt Show sponsored by the Alpine Area Friends of the Library has been a tradition since 2003. So, it was only fitting that the community became the 1st Arizona Barn Quilt Community Trail.
